JVP not giving up on 20A

The JVP says the party will continue its efforts to pass the 20th Amendment to the Constitution presented to abolish the Executive Presidency.
Speaking to NewsRadio, Western Provincial councillor Sunil Watagala said the JVP will hold discussions with several political leaders in a bid to obtain support for the proposed bill.
The JVP held discussions with several parties in recent weeks after presenting the 20th Amendment to the Constitution in Parliament.
JVP leaders discussed the bill presented to abolish the Executive Presidency with Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Leader of the Opposition Mahinda Rajapaksa and Leader of the Tamil National Alliance R Sampanthan.
Meanwhile, Sunil Watagala said if a Presidential Election was called the JVP will also field a candidate.
He said the JVP is hoping to form a broad alliance in June to contest upcoming election.
Western Provincial councillor Sunil Watagala said JVP will face the next General Elections under a broad alliance.
