The JVP says the party has not given up of the fight to retain ownership of the East Terminal of the Colombo Port with the Sri Lanka Ports Authority.
Speaking at a media briefing today politburo member of the JVP KD Lal Kantha said despite media reports that the President will not sell the East Terminal, the JVP will continue efforts for 100% ownership.
He stressed yesterday’s discussions were futile citing it was time wasted on several opinions.
Lal Kantha accused state official including former Minister Basil Rajapaksa and Subject Minister Rohitha Abeygunawardena of stating they will only grant a minority stake to India.
He said the President must be held responsible for the matter.
Lal Kantha also accused the government of betraying the country, adding this was not promised at the Presidential and General Elections.
He requested trade unions to not be a part of resolution committees or executive boards to resolve the issue and requested port employees to be firm in their stance to avoid harm to the country.
