Staff at the Kandy National Hospital say they are faced with a crisis when battling the coronavirus, as adequate resources have not been allocated to treat patients.
Chairman of the All Ceylon Nurses Union Prabath Kaluwithana said 17 hospital staff members are infected with coronavirus while 84 others have been directed to quarantine after being identified as close contacts.
Kaluwithana added they will resort to trade union action if solutions are not provided.
He pointed out that health authorities were warned of such a situation prior, after adequate attention was not given to providing safety equipment to hospital staff.
The Union Chairman also stated that social distancing was not an option.
