Kurunegala doctor remanded till 25th

The controversial doctor attached to the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital has been remanded until the 25th of July by the Kurunegala Chief Magistrate’s Court.

The order was issued by Kurunegala Magistrate Sampath Hewawasam.

He was produced in Court on charges of accumulation of wealth via illegal means and allegations of sterilising female patients during caesarean surgeries without their consent.

Meanwhile, the Criminal Investigations Department informed court that no evidence was found linking the suspect to terror related activities.

Additional Solicitor General Thusitha Mudalige representing the Attorney General also confirmed the same during today’s hearing.

However Attorneys representing the mothers who had filed charges against the controversial doctor said the investigations carried out based on the complaints was not acceptable.

Following consideration of the evidence the Chief Magistrate ordered the controversial doctor to be remanded till the 25th of July.
