Director of the Police Traffic Division in Colombo DIG Sumith Nissanka says the implementation of the Traffic Lane Regulations and the Priority Bus Lane project is only an attempt to ease the traffic flow in the city during peak hours.

Speaking during a media briefing at the police headquarters, DIG Sumith Nissanka said police officers are not attempting to inconvenience any party through the new measure.

While conforming that the regulations will be strictly enforced from Monday, DIG Sumith Nissanka requested motorists to comply with the law and help reduce the congestion.

He said due to the COIVD-19 crisis, the general public had refrained from using public transport services and resorted to private vehicles.

DIG Sumith Nissanka noted that due to the development, the number of vehicles on outer lanes has increased considerably.

He said in order to address the issue, all three-wheelers and motorcycles have been directed to the priority bus lanes along four roads in Colombo.

DIG Sumith Nissanka noted that he expects a better traffic flow in the city from Monday.
