Magisterial inquest into Makandure Madush’s death

The magisterial inquest into the death of drug kingpin Samarasinghe Arachchige Madush Lakshitha alias ‘Makandure Madush’ is currently underway.
‘Makandure Madush’ was killed this morning in a gunfire exchange, at the Laksetha Sevana apartment complex in Maligawatta.
Police said Madush was taken to the apartment complex by officers attached to the Colombo Crimes Division in a bid to seize 22kg of heroin that were concealed by underworld figures.
According to Police, drug racketeers had opened fire at Police officers, and ‘Makandure Madush’ had been killed in the shootout.
Acting Police Media Spokesperson Deputy Inspector General of Police Ajith Rohana said the Colombo Hulftsdorp Magistrate has visited the crime scene.
DIG Ajith Rohana said the wife of the deceased has identified the body and following the conduct of the autopsy, it will be released to the next of kin.
DIG Ajith Rohana noted that a special team has also been appointed to investigate this morning’s incident.
He said two CCD officers who sustained injuries in the incident are receiving treatment at the Colombo National hospital.
Meanwhile, a motorbike has also been found from the crime scene and the Maligawatte Police is conducting a separate investigation.
