‘Makandure Madush’ shot dead in Maligawatte

Drug kingpin ‘Makandure Madush’ has been killed in a gunfire exchange early this morning, at the Laksetha Sevana apartment complex in Maligawatta.

Police said Madush was taken to the apartment complex by officers attached to the Colombo Crimes Division in a bid to seize 22kg of heroin that were concealed by underworld figures.

Drug racketeers had opened fire at Police officers and ‘Makandure Madush’ had been killed in the gunfire exchange.

Acting Police Media Spokesman Deputy Inspector General Ajith Rohana said two officers attached to the CCD were also admitted to hospital after sustaining injuries.

DIG Rohana noted based on information revealed by ‘Makandure Madush’ and another suspect during interrogation 10kg of heroin were previously found in Kotikawatta.

The DIG said further investigations are underway into the incident.
