Minuwangoda COVID-19 cluster surpasses 2,000

The Minuwangoda COVID-19 cluster has surpassed 2,000 cases following the detection of another 42 patients.
The Department of Government Information said new cases include 22 from quarantine centres and 20 individuals identified as close contacts of the Minuwangoda cluster.
Accordingly, 115 cases linked to the cluster were reported today increasing the tally to 2,014.
Six arrivals, four sailors and a returnee each from South Africa and the United Arab Emirates also tested positive for COVID-19 today.
The number of infections recorded in the country is currently stands to 5,475.
Accordingly, 2,067 patients including 14 foreign nationals are receiving medical treatment for coronavirus at 17 hospitals across the country.
Meanwhile, earlier today, 10 more coronavirus infected persons recovered and were discharged from hospitals, increasing the number of recoveries to 3,395.
255 suspected COVID-19 cases are also under medical observation.
