Leader of the National Freedom Front Minister Wimal Weerawansa says as a party the NFF is against allowing dual citizenship holders contesting elections or holding high-level posts in Sri Lanka.
Speaking during the debate on the second reading of the 20th Amendment to the Constitution, Minister Weerawansa said they expressed their opposition to the inclusion of the clause in the 20th Amendment, during a discussion with President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
He said President Rajapaksa however promised to formulate a new Constitution within a year and the clause permitting dual citizenship holders to enter Parliament will be removed.
Minister Weerawansa claimed that the NFF has confidence in the President and his statements and therefore will support the Amendment.
He said the NFF is not aiming to create issues within the government but is standing for a policy matter.
