The Ministry of Justice and Prison Reforms claims two prison officers reportedly arrested with drug kingpin Makandure Madush in Dubai recently, are likely to be individuals who were expelled or suspended from service.
Speaking to NewsRadio, Additional Secretary Bandula Jayasinghe said no officers were sent to Dubai in recent times on official duties.
The Ministry added the information was uncovered following an examination of its records. However identities of those arrested with a group of drug dealers have not be revealed to the media thus far.
Additional Secretary Bandula Jayasinghe noted that the Ministry of Justice and Prisons Reforms is continuing its own investigation into the matter.
One of the most wanted criminals of Sri Lanka, ‘Makandure Madush’ and 24 others were reportedly arrested with drugs while attending a party at a hotel in Dubai on the 4th of this month.
Police and the government have commenced discussions with authorities in the United Arab Emirates to extradite the group.
