The Lanka Private Bus Owners Association says bus fares cannot be reduced in line with the fuel price amendments introduced by the government.

Chairman Gemunu Wijeratne speaking to NewsRadio said bus fares can be amended if diesel prices are reduced by at least Rs.12.

The government yesterday took measures to reduce a litre of 92 and 95 Octane and Auto Diesel by Rs.2 while a litre of Super Diesel was reduced by Rs.3.

According to the new price revision a litre of Auto Diesel will be sold at Rs.101 and a litre of Super Diesel will be sold at Rs.118 from today.

Wijeratne said the Rs.2 reduction is a small margin adding a significant reduction should take place in order to reduce bus fares.

When contacted by NewsRadio the Secretary of the All Island Private Bus Owners Federation Anjana Priyanjith said bus fares will not be reduced in line with the fuel price revision.
