The Chief Medical Officer of the Colombo Municipal Council Dr. Ruwan Wijayamuni has refuted claims circulating of 1,000 COVID-19 positive cases being identified in Colombo today, through the conduct of random PCR tests.

When contacted by NewsRadio Dr. Wijayamuni said such reports have been circulating on social media during the day.

He noted that 337 positive cases were identified from the Peliyagoda fish market nine days ago adding that the first-tier contacts of the group were identified and PCR tests were conducted.

Dr. Wijayamuni added 602 individuals returned positive results.

The Chief Medical Officer therefore said the 900+ positive cases are an accumulation of the two groups and not a group that tested positive during the day today.
