The Public Health Inspectors Union says health units and security forces are losing control of the coronavirus situation owing to public negligence.

Speaking to media in Puttalam, Chairman of the Union Upul Rohana said Sri Lanka has seen a 70% increase in COVID-19 cases at present.

He said the days ahead will be critical adding it will be impossible to avoid a situation similar to India if the coronavirus continues to spread, owing to limited resources and health workers.

Rohana requested the public, government and non-governmental workers to do their part in adhering to health guidelines and understanding the gravity of the situation.
