‘Opposition trying to disrupt 20A proceedings’

The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna charges the Opposition of seeking to postpone Parliament sittings in a bid to disrupt proceedings pertaining to the proposed 20th Amendment to the Constitution.
Speaking at a media briefing today Minister Rohitha Abeygunawardena said Parliament will convene tomorrow and on Thursday regardless of the stance by the Opposition.
Minister Rohitha Abeygunawardena accused Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa of attempting to halt Parliament sittings, using coronavirus as an excuse.
He stressed that MP Premadasa was not seeking a postponement out of patriotism.
The Minister was confident the government will pass the draft bill with a two thirds majority in Parliament.
