Pakistan Foreign Minister calls on the President

Pakistan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Shah Mahmood Qureshi today called on President Gotabaya Rajapaksa at the Presidential Secretariat.

The Minister extending warm greetings to the President on the Pakistan government’s behalf expressed the country’s keen interest in further strengthening bilateral relations with Sri Lanka especially in areas of economic development, trade, security cooperation and regional cooperation.

He said Pakistan has very close, friendly and warm relations with Sri Lanka adding that they hope to further develop them widening the scope of cooperation.

Minister Qureshi said the government is willing to work with Sri Lanka to conserve and develop the Buddhist heritage in Sri Lanka.

President Rajapaksa said efforts should be made to ensure continuous and enhanced growth in trade and investments on a mutually beneficial basis opposed to seeking financial assistance.

The President highlighted the case of betel exports to Pakistan as an example.

President Rajapaksa also stated that drug trafficking and addiction is a grave evil that he is confronted with and sought Pakistan’s assistance in eradicating the menace.

President Rajapaksa also requested the government of Pakistan to help Sri Lanka in the fight against extremism.
