Parliament debates death of ‘Makandure Madush’

Several Members of Parliament expressed their views in Parliament pertaining to drug kingpin ‘Makandure Madush’ who was killed in a shootout this morning.

National People’s Power Parliamentarian Vijitha Herath said with the murder of ‘Makandure Madush’, several politicians and drug racketeers involved in rackets with him, will be concealed.

MP Herath said if legal action was pursued against Madush, the names of those involved would have been revealed.

He added the people are concerned not over the death of the drug kingpin but the manner in which it happened.

He claimed that a Police spokesman during Madush’s arrest revealed that he had information of 80 politicians invovled in the drug trade.

MP Herath added with the murder of the drug lord, the names of those involved has also been concealed.

Meanwhile Parliamentarian Chamara Sampath Dasanayake joining the debate said the Opposition is condemning the death of ‘Makandure Madush’, who circulated narcotics across the country and overseas as well.

Samagi Jana Balawegaya Parliamentarian Nalin Bandara meanwhile questioned the government over the information provided by ‘Makandure Madush’ during his one and a half years in prison.

He said politicians who were involved in drug rackets with ‘Makandure Madush’ are today pleased with the news of his death.

MP Bandara said Sri Lanka brought Madush from overseas through the assistance of foreign law enforcement agencies, claiming that such murders will portray Sri Lanka in a negative light before such esteemed agencies in future.
