Minister of Health Pavithra Wanniarachchi says Parliament is not considered a public place according to the COVID-19 Preventive measures regulations gazette.

Speaking in Parliament, Health Minister Wanniarachchi noted that Parliament proceedings can continue without any impediments as the restrictions imposed on public gatherings are not applicable to Parliament.

She said although MPs must adhere to health guidelines, the gazette has no bearing on the conduct of Parliament sittings.

The Health Minister clarified that certain clauses of the gazette are applicable to Parliamentarians; however, Parliament is not required to comply with specific restrictions imposed on gatherings in public places.

The Health Minister also accused the opposition of attempting to deceive the public through false narratives.
