Former Parliamentarian Ajith P Perera requested the government to refrain from increasing the prices of essential goods as many people have lost their livelihoods and incomes due to the present coronavirus pandemic.
Speaking to media on the government’s decision to increase special commodity taxes on a number of imported goods, he noted that many middle class and poverty stricken families in the country are facing financial issues due to their income streams being affected.
The Former MP commended the government’s programme to provide a Rs.5,000 allowance to the needy. He also requested authorities not to tax food items during trying times.
