PM pledges to reduce bank lending rates

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says the bank interest rates will come down from 12 to 10% later this month.
Speaking during an event in Trincomalee today, Premier Ranil Wickremesinghe said the prime lending rate will be brought down to 10 per cent and noted that steps have been taken to further reduce the rate.
The Prime Minister noted that the economic growth was severely hampered during the past three months due to the Easter Sunday attacks.
The government has taken several measures to stabilise the country’s economy after the deadly bombings and according to the Prime Minister, the tourism, aviation and small and medium scale businesses have received several concessions after the unfortunate incident.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe stressed that the government will bring back normalcy to the country through a measured programme.
On a separate note, the Premier said the government was able to defeat the No-Confidence Motion presented by the Opposition in Parliament last week.
The Prime Minister said the present stable administration is forging ahead although the opposition continues to sabotage progressive initiatives taken by the government.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe noted that he has taken the responsibility to transform Sri Lanka into a prosperous nation.
