The All Ceylon General Port Employee Union says discussions held with the President pertaining to the East Container Terminal of the Colombo Port have failed.
Speaking to NewsRadio Chief Secretary of the Union Niroshan Gorakanage said the President clearly stated during discussions, that it is the government’s stance to grant 49% ownership stake of the terminal to India, while Sri Lanka maintains 51%.
He stressed the union attended the talks with the stance that the Sri Lanka Ports Authority must maintain 100% ownership stake of the East Container Terminal, lamenting therefore over the President’s claim that 49% would be handed over to India.
Gorakanage stressed the issue has now become a major concern to both port employees and the general public.
