Minister Prasanna Ranatunga says the government will be able to pass the 20th Amendment to the Constitution in Parliament despite the opposition from within the administration.
Speaking to media in Gampaha today, Minister Ranatunga said the government will educate the public of the need for such an amendment.
He said the present administration received a mandate to abolish the 19th Amendment during the recently concluded General Election.
Minister Prasanna Ranatunga therefore noted that following a Parliamentary debate on the 21st and 22nd of this month, the new Constitutional Amendment will be passed.
He also pledged that the government will introduce a new Constitution promptly to ensure the safety and security of all Sri Lankans.
