President declares open new Army Headquarters

President Maithripala Sirisena officially declared open the new Army Headquarters at the Defence Headquarters Complex in Akuregoda, Battaramulla this morning.
The Army, Navy and Air Force headquarters are housed in one complex for the first time in the country’s history.
The project got underway in 2011 with the laying of the foundation stone, and has been constructed at a cost of Rs.53.3 billion.
This is the largest building project launched in Sri Lanka.
The opening of the Army Headquarters is the first phase of a large-scale project.
The headquarters comprises of state of the art, modern amenities including up to date security methods.
The main army offices spread across the island will also be established within the headquarters in the near future.
