President hell-bent on eradicating narcotics

President Maithripala Sirisena says he is dedicated to building a rural society void of narcotics.

Speaking at a village strengthening programme in Palugaswewa, President Sirisena stressed that circulation of narcotics has prevented the rural folk from being alleviated out of poverty.

The President claimed the drugs were the main cause for the increase in poverty adding therefore the government had conducted an island-wide drug eradication programme.

President Sirisena stressed the importance of establishing a drug free community in order for villages to be developed and children to be strong, healthy and to become good citizens.

The Head of State added parents needed to be strengthened economically in order for them to face all challenges.
