President receives preliminary MCC report

The four member expert committee appointed to review and revisit the Millennium Challenge Corporation agreement has submitted its preliminary report to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
The report was handed over to the Head of State at the President’s House.
The Committee was appointed on the 1st of January based on a Cabinet of Ministers decision reached on the 18th of December 2019.
The committee is chaired by Prof. Lalithasiri Gunaruwan and comprises members, former Secretary to the Transport Ministry DS Jayaweera, Attorney President’s Court Nihal Jayawardana and Architect Nalaka Jayaweera.
The 480$ million grant under the MCC agreement was proposed to utilise to upgrade the transportation infrastructure and improve land management, covering the country.
The Cabinet appointed the Committee on a proposal tabled by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa to comprehensively study the agreement.
The Committee also sought public opinion on the agreement. The complete report by the Committee will be submitted to the President in four months.
