The Locomotive Engine Operators Union says continuous and daily delays faced by railway services have become a pressing issue.

Speaking to NewsRadio Union Secretary Indika Dodangoda cited the reason for such delays as being the improper and irregular maintenance of railways lines and trains. Office and long distance trains have been the worst affected by delays.

Dodangoda also claimed that delays occur due to unreasonable conditions imposed on train operators by railway authorities.

The Locomotive Engine Drivers Union stressed the issue has been brought to the attention of both the Minister and State Minister of Transport of the government; however a response on the matter is yet to be received.

Indika Dodangoda therefore urged authorities to intervene promptly in order to resolve the issue.
