A closed door meeting was held between Leader of the United National Party Ranil Wickremesinghe and Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa yesterday.

Parliamentarian Harshana Rajakaruna said MP Kabir Hashim was also present at the meeting.

Speaking during a media briefing at the Opposition Leader’s Office this morning MP Rajakaruna said discussions are due to get underway between the two parties today and tomorrow as well, however adding a final decision must be taken tomorrow and not dragged on any longer.

He pointed out that that it was high time to decide on whether they would face the election together or separately, adding the primary party in the proposed alliance was the UNP and all are members of the UNP as well.

He therefore urged all relevant factions and individuals that the decision must be reached tomorrow and finalised.

MP Harshana Rajakaruna meanwhile extended an invitation to the Sri Lanka Freedom Party to abandon the agreement with the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna and join the proposed new alliance of the opposition, as the SLPP seemed to be backtracking on its pledges to the SLFP.

He stressed the SLFP’s greatest mistake was not pledging its support to Sajith Premadasa in the beginning.

He urged the SLFP to straighten its backbone and reach a decision on its support for the SLPP, once again inviting the group to join the alliance and move forward together.
