Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa says priority will be given to rural road development and clean drinking water after establishing a government following the General Election.

The Premier addressing a rally in Galle said the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna has a clear development plan.

The Prime Minister said the country went backwards during the past four and a half years, adding that in 2005, when the UPFA government came into power, they had ended a 30-year long conflict, and set out on a journey of development.

Premier Rajapaksa said they also launched development in the North and East, where there was no electricity either.

The Prime Minister noted that the then government provided power to all corners of the country, developed roads, constructed highways, and carpeted roads.

He noted that only 41% have clean drinking water, adding that they will increase the figure to 100%.
