‘Govt. must raise Shavendra Silva ban with Pompeo’

Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa has requested the government to initiate discussions with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who is expected to visit Sri Lanka next week, to lift the US travel ban imposed on Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva.

MP Premadasa speaking in Parliament urged the President, Prime Minister and Foreign Minister accordingly to raise the matter with the top US official.

On behalf of the Tri-Forces and Police, the Opposition Leader suggested the President bring it up during talks with the US Secretary of State.

In response to the request Minister Dinesh Gunawardena said they proceeded to take action within the first 24-hours the proposition was initially revealed by the Opposition Leader.
