Samarasinghe MS’ rep in Constitutional Council

President Maithripala Sirisena has appointed Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe as his representative to the Constitutional Council.

The new appointment comes in the wake of the expiration of the President’s former representative Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka.

The Parliament Deputy General Secretary Neil Iddawela speaking to NewsRadio confirmed the appointment.

The Constitutional Council is a 10-member constitutional authority tasked with maintaining independent commissions and monitoring its affairs.

The Constitutional Council is aimed at depoliticizing the public service.

The country’s independent commissions were established under the Constitutional Council.
