United People’s Freedom Alliance Parliamentarian Dr. Sarath Amunugama says he will not contest at the upcoming General Election.

Speaking at a media briefing in Kandy, the MP said politicians should retire from politics at the suitable time.

The MP said politicians must retire and grant an opportunity for the youth of the country to come forward.

On a separate note, MP Amunugama noted the Sri Lanka Freedom Party must adhere to the agreement they penned with the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna.

He claimed however that there was no issue between the SLFP and the SLPP as that portrayed to the public, adding that both parties were part of the same Cabinet, party and fought for the same causes.

The MP requested the Sri Lanka Freedom Party to refrain from signing agreements in order to obtain posts and to put supporters first when engaging in duties.
