Former Parliamentarian Shantha Bandara has opposed the move to name HMDB Herath as a United People’s Freedom Alliance National List MP for the post that fell vacant after the demise of Kurunegala District MP Salinda Dissanayake.
An Extraordinary Gazette notification was issued yesterday declaring HMDB Herath as a Member of Parliament to replace MP Salinda Dissanayake.
However, former MP Bandara noted that he obtained the next highest number of preferential votes in the Kurunegala District UPFA ticket, at the 2015 General Election and therefore he must replace late Salinda Dissanayake in parliament.
Former MP Shantha Bandara added he will discuss with the party hierarchy pertaining to the matter before arriving at a decision.
Following the demise of Salinda Dissanayake, Shantha Bandara resigned from his national list MP post in a bid to be re-appointed as a Parliamentarian from the Kurunegala district UPFA ticket.
