‘6-member committee has been rejected by many’

Samagi Jana Balawegaya Parliamentarian Niroshan Perera says the Catholic Church has opposed the appointment of a six-member committee of Members of Parliament appointed to study the report by the Presidential Commission of Inquiry that probed the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks.

Speaking in Parliament today, MP Perera questioned as to when the report will be tabled in Parliament.

Joining the debate, MP Harin Fernando said it was the Speaker’s duty to inform MPs if the report will be made public, at the commencement of proceedings.

Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana today confirmed that the report by the Presidential Commission will be tabled in Parliament.

The Speaker also informed Parliament that he received the final report which he said will be tabled in Parliament upon receiving copies.

Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardana also stated the report has been directed to the Parliament library for Members of Parliament to refer.
