Rs.192 million loss due to train strike

The Department of Railways says it incurred a loss of approximately 192 million rupees owing to the 12-day strike launched by a number of train unions.
The strike action, launched based on several demands, was called-off yesterday after discussions with representatives of various rail unions.
Speaking to NewsRadio General Manager of Railways Dilantha Fernando said all necessary measures have been taken to return railway services back to normalcy, following the indefinite strike action and noted that staff have been reporting to work from last evening.
The General Manager of Railways said all office trains will operate according to schedule today adding that outstation trains will also resume operations.
Fernando added railway services will return to normalcy by this evening.
The indefinite strike action launched by engine drivers, guards, controllers and station masters over a number of demands was called-off yesterday.
The strike action which continued for almost 12 days was launched by railway employees demanding solutions to existing Grade discrepancies.
