United People’s Freedom Alliance Parliamentarian SB Dissanayake says the decision by the Sri Lanka Freedom Party to boycott the convention of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna was illegal.

Addressing a media gathering MP Dissanayake said he along with several other MPs were not invited for the meeting at which the decision to boycott the convention was reached.

He remarked that the way Dayasiri thinks could be different, charging his way of thinking is evident of his lack of experience. The MP stressed a party cannot do this, adding inviting only a few of the SLFP group, ignoring the others for meetings and reaching decisions that they will not attend the SLPP convention are not legitimate.

The MP therefore stressed such are merely decisions or views, further noting they were unacceptable.

He expressed commitment to work for Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

MP SB Dissanayake added he believes that President Maithripala Sirisena extended his best wishes to Gotabaya Rajapaksa on his candidacy for the upcoming Presidential Election.

He noted before appointing Gotabaya Rajapaksa as the SLPP candidate, Mahinda Rajapaksa met with Maithripala Sirisena and they had a two-hour meeting.

The MP revealed that he had spoken to both of them and the two leader claimed the talks were successful.

He expressed his confidence that Mahinda Rajapaksa informed the President of Gotabaya’s candidacy, adding he is certain the President issued his congratulations as well.

MP SB Dissanayake therefore stated that was why they both stated after the meeting that all can be hopeful.
