General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party State Minister Dayasiri Jayasekara says the Sri Lanka  Podujana Peramuna will lose the symbol of the flower bud, if the Sri Lanka Nidahas Podujana Peramuna contests under the symbol of the flower bud at the General Election.

Speaking at a media briefing at the party headquarters the State Minister noted party leaders of the alliance have held talks to promptly resolve the issue regarding the symbol.

State Minister Jayasekara said when the SLFP joins an alliance, the party have done so under the symbol of the chair and the beetle leaf because it needed to protect the identity of the party.

He noted in the event the symbol of the Sri Lanka Nidahas Podujana Peramuna becomes the flower bud, the SLPP will not have the ability to contest under the same symbol, and they will have to adopt a different symbol like the chair.

The State Minister added the parties are working on resolving the issue with a good understanding on the matter, adding that the two parties can work together as an alliance.

State Minister Jayasekara said the SLPP must arrive at a decision pertaining to contesting under the symbol of the flower bud as the SLPP will lose an opportunity to contest under the same symbol in the future.
