SL’s disciplined Tri-Forces widely acclaimed – MS

President Maithripala Sirisena says Sri Lanka’s defence forces have achieved high acclaim due to upholding strict discipline.
The Head of State speaking at the opening ceremony of new Army Headquarters at the Defence Headquarters Complex in Akuregoda, Battaramulla said the country’s security forces have become widely respected across the world.
President Sirisena noted the Sri Lanka Army, Navy and Air Force had operated as a disciplined, law abiding army for the past seven decades and as one of the best armies in the world.
The President added Tri-Forces had worked with dedication and sacrificed their lives to ensure the unitary status, national security and the territorial integrity of the country.
The Head of State stressed due to the war, the Sri Lankan armies had been highly capable and had showed more heroism, energy, dedication and had worked according to a targeted plan to emerge victorious and become one of the most recognized armies in the world.
President Sirisena further noted Tri-Force personnel had been able to serve in the UN Peace Keeping Forces due to the recognition they garnered.
The President also expressed belief that any shortcomings in the plans and the relevant establishment of the Air Force and Navy in the complex will also be completed within the next two years.
The Head of State said these processes could be expedited if the necessary funds are received on time, however added it slowed down depending on the treasury.
President Sirisena commenting further expressed his appreciation to the Tri-Forces and Police for their support during his tenure as Head of State.
The President reiterated his appreciation and respect to the Secretary of Defence, the Heads of the Tri Forces as well as the Inspector General of Police for the support they had extending pertaining to National Security, public aspirations, economic development and all other activities
The President added he had been able to carry out his duties to the highest standard due to the support of the Tri-Forces and the Police.
The new Army Headquarters at the Defence Headquarters Complex in Akuregoda, Battaramulla was declared open this morning.
President Maithripala Sirisena graced the occasion and officially declared open the new Army Headquarters.
The event was attended by the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Secretary of Defence General Shantha Kottegoda and Acting Inspector General of Police Chandana Wickramaratne among several others.
The Army, Navy and Air Force headquarters are housed in the same Defence Headquarters Complex for the first time in the country’s history.
The project got underway in 2011 with the laying of the foundation stone, and is being constructed at a cost of Rs.53.3 billion.
This is the largest building project ever to have been launched in Sri Lanka.
The opening of the Army Headquarters is the first phase of a large-scale project.
The headquarters comprises of state of the art, modern facilities including up to date security systems.
The main army offices spread across the island will also be established within the headquarters in the near future.
