Special High Court to take up IK Mahanama’s case

The Chief Justice today granted permission to the Bribery Commission to file charges at the Special Permanent High Court-at-bar, against Former Chief of Staff of the President, IK Mahanama and Former Chairman of State Timber Corporation Piyadasa Dissanayake who were implicated in a bribery case.
Accordingly cases will be filed before the Special Permanent High Court-at-bar.
Yesterday, the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption informed Court that it will file charges against Former Chief of Staff of the President, IK Mahanama and Former STC Chairman Piyadasa Dissanayake who were arrested for allegedly soliciting a bribe of Rs. 20 million.
Officials of the Bribery Commission informed Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne that investigations over the matter had concluded.
The suspects were arrested when attempting to accept a bribe from an Indian businessman to handover equipment and sanction a building belonging to a sugar factory in Kantale.
