‘Sputnik-V will be the main COVID-vaccine in SL’

State Minister of Production, Supply and Regulation of Pharmaceuticals Channa Jayasumana says the Russian manufactured Sputnik-V vaccine will be the main COVID-19 vaccination dose that will be administered in Sri Lanka in future.

The State Minister made this statement during the commencement of the vaccination drive in Gothatuwa today.

State Minister Channa Jayasumana said the second dose of the Sputnik-V vaccine will be administered in three weeks.

He said those who received the first dose of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine will not be administered the Sputnik-V vaccine as the second dose.

State Minister Jayasumana said they hope to vaccinate 6.5 million individuals with the Sputnik-V vaccine.

He said funds have been allocated while agreements have been signed adding that necessary payments are being made with no issues arisen thus far.
