The Ministry of Health says Sri Lanka is in possession of adequate PCR kits to test persons for coronavirus.

Speaking during a media briefing at the Department of Government Information today, Deputy Director General of Health Services Dr. Ananda Jayalal said the country is able to meet the demand for PCR tests, adding that more stocks are expected to arrive in the country shorty.

He said, PCR test kits have a shelf life of six months and therefore they cannot import large stocks. Dr. Ananda Jayalal said the public should not panic as Sri Lanka will not face any shortages.

A total of 8,831 PCR tests were conducted in the country yesterday to identify COVID-19 positive cases.

The Health Promotion Bureau said that 469,286 PCR tests have been conducted in the country since the outbreak of the coronavirus.
