Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 caseload surpasses 21,000

Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 caseload surpassed the 21,000 mark today.

The Department of Government Information said 294 new COVID-19 cases were detected in the country today, bringing the total number of infections to 21,261.

All new cases have been identified as contacts of the Minuwangoda-Peliyagoda COVID-19 cluster.

Accordingly, at least 17,730 cases have been confirmed during the second COVID-19 wave in the country.

The Epidemiology Unit of the Ministry of Health said 5,720 individuals including 11 foreign nationals are currently receiving treatment for coronavirus in the island.

Meanwhile, earlier today, 485 COVID-19 patients recovered and were discharged from hospitals increasing the number of recoveries in Sri Lanka to 15,447.

577 suspected cases remain under medical observation.

94 persons have also died with COVID-19 in the country.
