Sri Lanka’s COVID-19 tally increases to 8,870

Another 164 individuals have tested positive for the coronavirus today.

The number of infections in the country accordingly increases to 8,870.

The Government Information Department said among the 164 cases are 156 contacts of the Minuwangoda-Peliyagoda cluster and eight persons identified at quarantine centres.

With the detection of today’s 457 new infections, the Minuwangoda-Peliyagoda coronavirus cluster also surpassed the 5,000 mark and is now at 5,396.

Earlier today coronavirus recoveries rose to 4,043 with 110 individuals discharged after recovering during the past 24-hours.

Accordingly, 4,808 patients including 13 foreign nationals are currently receiving treatment for coronavirus at 34 medical facilities across the country.

445 suspected COVID-19 cases are also under medical observation at present.
