The Department of Meteorology says windy and rainy conditions particularly in South-West of the island are expected to enhance.

A sudden increase of wind speed up to 70-80 kmph is expected over the island in the Western, Southern, Sabaragamuwa, North-Central, North-western, Northern and Central provinces and in the Trincomalee district after 2.00pm.

Showers will occur at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern and North-western provinces, while heavy falls above 100 mm are likely in the Central and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Galle and Kalutara districts.

Fairly heavy falls about 75 mm are likely in the North-western province and in the Colombo, Gampaha, Matara and Hambantota districts.

Meanwhile the Disaster Management Centre has urged the public to take all necessary steps to minimize damage caused by collapsing trees, branches and other debris, whilst also remaining vigilant of surrounding areas, owing to strong winds.
