Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe hails the late Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj as an iconic South Asian figure at the World Stage.
Extending his condolences to the family members of the late Indian Minister, Premier Wickremesinghe said during Swaraj’s term as the External Affairs Minister, Indo-Sri Lanka relations flourished.
The Prime Minister said she worked tirelessly to strengthen bilateral ties between the two South Asian neighbours.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe issuing a statement said former Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj was always stood by Sri Lanka’s interests at international fora.
Sushma Swaraj, one of India’s best-known politicians, passed away aged 67.
Swaraj, who served as foreign minister for five years, suffered a cardiac arrest last night and was admitted to a hospital in New Delhi.
Swaraj, had been suffering from poor health and had a kidney transplant in 2016.
