Traffic lane laws strictly enforced from today

The traffic lane regulations and the priority bus lane project will be strictly enforced from today along four routes.
Police said the traffic lane regulations will be enforced along Galle Road, High-level Road, Baseline Road and Sri Jayewardenepura Mawatha between 6am and 9am and 4pm and 8pm.
Police said motorists who violate the regulations will not be fined while legal action will not be taken either this week.
Motorists and the registered owners of vehicles found to be violating the regulations will instead be identified via CCTV and drone footage and will be warned and educated of the traffic regulations.
Police Media Spokesman Senior Superintendent of Police Jaliya Senaratne said Police will grant permission for buses, three-wheelers and motorbikes to travel along the left lane.
SSP Senaratne noted all vehicles except buses, including three-wheelers and motorbikes, can use the lane in the middle, on roads with three lanes.
He added all other vehicles, excluding buses, three-wheelers and motorbikes, will be allowed to travel along the outer lane.
SSP Senaratne requested bus operators to switch lanes methodically when turning right, in three lane roads.
SSP Senaratne said buses, three-wheelers and motorbikes will be allowed to utilise the left lane on one way four lane roads, during the stipulated times.
He added all vehicles except buses, three-wheelers and motorbikes, will be allowed to utilise the second lane on the left as well.
The Police Media Spokesman said all vehicles except buses, three-wheelers and motorbikes, will be allowed to utilise the two right lanes, in four lane roads.
He noted motorists must switch lanes methodically when turning left or right. SSP Jaliya Senaratne said apart from when turning left or right, motorists must remain in the same lane till they reach their destination or enter another road.
