Two children at Kandy Hospital COVID-19 positive

Two children admitted to the Kandy National Hospital and their mothers have been identified as COVID-19 patients.

Director of the Hospital Dr. Iresha Fernando said one of the children is six months while the other is one and a half years old.

She noted steps were taken to direct them to the Teldeniya Hospital for treatment.

Dr. Fernando further noted 60 members of the hospital staff were subject to PCR tests yesterday of which 57 returned negative results.

She added the other three will be subject to another test.

It was confirmed yesterday that a doctor attached to a clinic of the Kandy National Hospital, seven nurses and five support staff members had contracted the virus.

Accordingly the clinic was temporarily closed.

Dr. Iresha Fernando said due to the current situation scheduled surgeries will be temporarily suspended till Friday.

She noted only essential and urgent surgeries will be carried out as it is important to protect the hospital staff and treat patients.

The Hospital Director added clinics will also operate with restrictions while treatment for patients being admitted will be carried out as per usual.
