Unemployment a main govt. concern-Namal

Minister Namal Rajapaksa says the main challenge of the present government is addressing unemployment.

Speaking in Parliament today Minister Rajapaksa accused the Leader of the Opposition of granting temporary appointments.

Quoting census statistics, the Minister said more than 850,000 youth are unemployed in addition to the already unemployed group.

Minister Rajapaksa claimed foreign investments must be given a boost while pointing out that a recent 300-million-dollar investment made centring the Hambantota Port would also create 2,000 jobs in the first phase.

Considering this project, the Minister said foreign investments will flourish in future.

Parliamentarian Kabir Hashim in response to Minister Namal Rajapaksa’s claim said the present government should bear responsibility for unemployment.

The MP charged that poor decision-making skills of the government have led to the present situation.

MP Hashim said the present government has been in power for 20 out of the past 25 years, adding they are responsible for unemployment.

He claimed the government must provide answers as they created the issue from the inception.

The Parliamentarian accused the government of failing to provide a fixed plan for development and claimed they blamed the former government for issues related to national security and identity, to come in to power.
