The United National Party has requested the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna to engage in a Presidential Election campaign free of violence.

Speaking at a media briefing in Colombo today the Former UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake said violence will not stop Presidential candidate of the New Democratic Front Minister Sajith Premadasa from obtaining a win at the Novemebr 16th election.

Attanayake said when they don’t receive a public mandate, they attempt to obtain that through violence, intimidation and insults.

Attanayake added the UNP is looking forward to a free and fair election and urged individuals not to stoop to violence.

He claimed the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna is throwing a lot of money for campaigning, charging that funds are being allocated to hurl allegations in the form of videos.

Tissa Attanayake noted Sajith Premadasa’s victory cannot be prevented through such actions.
