State Minister of Investment Promotions Keheliya Rambukwella says the public will be educated of the wrong misconceptions the United National Party government is attempting to create over direct investments.

Speaking at a media briefing in Kandy today, the State Minister said the previous administration was unaware of the true economic state of the country.

The State Minister charged the former government of repeatedly claiming to have to pay back the Rajapaksa debt, while accepting that under the United People’s Freedom Alliance led government in 2005 the debt was Rs.2.2 trillion while in 2015 it increased to Rs.7.3.

The State Minister however stated that although the debt burden increased, the GDP also increased from $20 billion to $81 billion during this period, adding that the loans had converted into investments.

State Minister Rambukwella further claimed that the UNP government sold the Hambantota Port for $1.2 billion and questioned the whereabouts of the monies.

Therefore the Minister claimed that he considers it his responsibility to reveal the truth to the people.
