Leader of the United National Party Ranil Wickremesinghe says he fulfilled all his responsibilities at the 2019 Presidential Election without any shortcomings.

Speaking at a media gathering at the UNP headquarters Sirikotha, Ranil Wickremesinghe said certain individuals are spreading false claims that he disrupted propaganda activities of the Presidential Election.

He claimed that during the election period, a mechanism was in place for the election process, adding that the party fulfilled its respective duties.

Wickremesinghe also denied claims that the UNP and himself dampened the mechanism in place.

The party leader stated that individual responsibilities were vested with senior members, Ministers and everyone else involved.

Ranil Wickremesinghe noted that he took up the responsibility of voters of the North and East, and highlighted that he was able to increase the percentage of votes garnered.

He claimed that the vote percentages garnered in the seven provinces in the South decreased, citing that as a reason behind losing the election.

Ranil Wickremesinghe also stated that the United National Party must analyse the results of the 2019 Presidential Election.

Wickremesinghe claimed that new leaders must be granted the opportunity to introduce new reforms within the party.

The UNP leader stated that the party must focus on how they lost the support of the Sinhala Buddhist community, adding that an analysis of the election results must be conducted.

He claimed that only then can the UNP move forward.

He noted that the UNP will not be successful if the party continues to point fingers over various matters.

Ranil Wickremesinghe said party members or representatives were not responsible for the financial dealings of the party, and rejected all such claims stating otherwise.

He called on all party members to think of the future of the party and stated that the UNP must put forward new leaders for the future of the party.

Wickremesinghe said the results of the election analysis, will pave way for responsibilities based on new policies.
