The Cabinet of Ministers has decided to approve a proposal for a Vote on Account in Parliament for the first 4 months of 2020.

The Department of Government Information stated the decision was reached due to the delay in the implementation of the 2020 Budget owing to the appointment of a new government following the Presidential Election and the policies of the new government.

Accordingly Minister of Finance Mangala Samaraweera proposed to formulate a Vote on Account for the 1st four months of 2020 in order to facilitate state expenditure.

Therefore the proposal in this regard presented before the Cabinet of Ministers was approved.

Meanwhile Cabinet approval has also been granted to levy tax on foreign commercial transactions carried out through credit and debit cards when purchasing goods and services overseas.

Therefore the Finance Act of 2018 No. 35 will be amended accordingly.
